Summers are upon us and that means you must take some extra steps to take care of your skin. During this season, so many of us go through skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, dark spots, premature aging, and even extreme dryness if you suffer from eczema. You can totally stay clear of all these problems just by incorporating 5 skincare products in your everyday routine. Trust me, if you pay attention to your skin, it’ll reward you back.
#1. SPF
If you are not using a sunscreen every single day, you are making a BIG MISTAKE. Or if you think you can just get away with applying it once during the day, you are in the same boat. Sunscreen should be a part of your skincare routine; I don’t care what season it is. Even if you are staying indoors all day long, there is sunlight coming in from the windows and you need to be protected from that.
When looking for that perfect sunscreen, go for something that is broad-spectrum, meaning it protects against both UVB and UVA rays. Also, it should be atleast SPF 30. An amazing one would be the Cerave Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 as it’s got so many benefits and offers great protection against the sun.
Half a teaspoon in the right amount for the face and neck (yep, that much!). I like to use the dot technique which basically means you apply a dot on every part of the face (cheek, forehead, nose, chin) to ensure even distribution.
#2. Lightweight Moisturizer
So many people are under the impression that applying a moisturizer in the summertime will make your skin oilier. Well, that will obviously happen if you are using the wrong type of product for your skin type. I personally like to switch to a light-weight moisturizer in the summer season and that’s what you should do too. One of my personal favorites is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost; it is a gel-based product that melts into your skin. Plus, it contains hyaluronic acid which is a major plus point.
#3. Niacinamide or Vitamin C
Both Niacinamide and Vitamin C are called as antioxidants. What are those, you ask? The simplest explanation would be that it is an ingredient that helps to protect your skin from UV rays and pollution. They also help to slow down the visible signs of aging and improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
.
My ride or die serum is from The Inkey List; it contains 10% niacinamide and 1% hyaluronic acid. As for the Vitamin C serum, I love the one from The Ordinary; it’s budget friendly and good for sensitive skin. Oh, and you don’t have to use both at the same time, just opt for one to include in your skincare routine.
#4 A Good Cleanser
Gone are the days when you would wash your face with a scrub or a random face wash you found in the grocery store. Cleansers are the way to go in 2021! Make sure you are using a good cleanser both morning and night to ensure healthy skin. The Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is a crowd favorite and a great option for all skin types.
#5. Chemical Exfoliator
Remember how we used to exfoliate our face several times a week with the St.Ives Apricot scrub? (If you didn’t then you literally saved your skin). Sometimes I can’t believe I put my skin through that, but we have come a long way since then. Chemical exfoliators may sound harsh, but they are not when used the right way. Exfoliation is really important during summer as it helps to get rid of all the dead skin cells while also removing dirt and protecting your skin from future breakouts.
Glow Tonic from Pixi Beauty is a cult favorite and a great product for someone who has no experience with chemical exfoliators.
And there you have it ladies; these 5 skincare products are worth the investment and will help you achieve that summer glow.
